Hoax FTC email spreading malware

Yet another clever socially-engineered email-borne malware attack has hit. This time a spoofed email was sent that appears to be an acknowledgment of a complaint filed by the recipient with the FTC. The message is personalized with name and company name and encourages opening the attachment by stating

Is malware always bad?

I just came across an interesting article in IT Management which called the Happy New Year malware a “hoax” since it is not as malicious as people originally thought. It “only” spams the infected users’ contacts with a stock manipulation scam.
