Energy on the RSA show floor

February 7th, 2007 by Rebecca Herson | Category: Commtouch Lore, Security Conferences |

I was sure I would be full of news & views after listening to keynote speeches, sitting in on sessions, and so on. But we’ve been so busy at our Marriott hospitality suites meeting with partners, business associates and the media, that until yesterday afternoon the closest I had gotten to a keynote was reading about it in that lovely Computerworld article Nikki posted. Then suddenly I had a free hour at the very end of the show-day yesterday, and had a chance to venture out onto the show floor. And what a show floor it was! The energy is back, folks. It’s not as crazy & full of hype as, say 2000, but, with just my own assessment to go on, this looks like the biggest RSA ever, and people seem to really be genuinely interested in seeing what new products are out there.

I spent some time visiting some of our partners on the floor. Mirapoint was extremely busy showing off their RazorGate on a blade to visitors and the press, the first ever messaging security solution on a blade, enabling ISPs and large enterprises to rack up 14 of them in a single chassis. Proofpoint (which uses Commtouch technology for Zero Hour virus protection) had some great gadgets on show (not least of which were their products :) ) and has an improvisational rapper at their booth which is a huge hit. Sendmail announced their new version of the Trusted Unified Messaging Platform (TrUMP), which includes Commtouch’s Reputation Service on their Flow Control 2.0 product. I was happy to see F-Secure and Tumbleweed exhibiting as well, with strong showings from both. I also snooped at some of the partner booths that use Commtouch technology in stealth mode, and was pleased to see lots of traffic and interest at those booths too.

Today it’s another full day of back-to-back meetings, but most of them are at Moscone center, so hopefully I’ll have some more time to explore other technologies and companies that I haven’t seen before. And then we have our kick-back happy hour tonight where we can re-connect with old friends and new ones.
